Biography

About

Emily Wong is a composer & music producer for film, TV,  multimedia and the performing arts who resides in Singapore.

She is a trusted collaborator, known for her ability to translate any mood, emotion or creative brief into music. She has a profound understanding of the subtlest nuances, painting vivid soundscapes that enhance any experience. Emily fully embraces every facet of the creative process and takes great pleasure in meticulously crafting a score, from the script to final mix.

Background

Music has always been a vital part of Emily’s life. She began classical training in the piano and violin at the age of 7 and the clarinet shortly after.

She achieved recognition as a classical pianist as a finalist in the 9th International Chopin Piano Competition in Asia and as a clarinetist where she was awarded 2nd Prize at the 1st National Clarinet Competition in Singapore. Her training in violin led her to leadership roles in the Singapore National Youth Orchestra, contributing to her deep understanding of the orchestra and allowing her to be a musician’s composer.

Works

Her career as a music composer took off when she recognized the power of music in enhancing narratives and experiences. She collaborated intensively with filmmakers, directors and animators, providing original music for various projects. Her work in film has led her music to be heard around the world, including “Vandals” which premiered at the One Earth Young Filmmakers Contest 2020 (Chicago) and “En Pointe” which premiered at the Burbank International Film Festival 2023 (Los Angeles), also awarded Best Film Score/ Musical Composition for a Short Film.  

Outside of film, Emily has provided original music to exhibitions, live concerts and theatre. Her music has served as a backdrop to the immersive exhibition “Avatar: The Experience” which drew in over 2.5 million visitors at the Cloud Forest, Gardens By The Bay and she has arranged medleys for a 30,000-strong National Day live televised concert. Together with Universal Production Music APAC, her compositions have been featured on regional TV and advertisements, a recent highlight includes her music being synced to a Nintendo Switch trailer for a video game released September 2023 (“Mineko’s Night Market”).

Emily holds a Masters in Music Theory and Composition: Screen Scoring (M.M., 2020) from New York University Steinhardt where she studied with Chris Hajian, John Kaefer and Paul Chihara. In addition, she also holds a Bachelors of Laws (LL.B. Hons., 2016) from the National University of Singapore.
